This series comprises records from the first deaconess conference held by the Deaconess Community of the Lutheran Church in America (LCA) August 26-29, 1968, at Lankenau School, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While several of the records were generated during the course of recording the proceedings of the conference, many of them were generated through the planning process for the conference. Records date from 1966-1968 and include conference minutes, motions, reports, printed sermons, program booklets, committee reports, devotional material, and planning records. Also included is the order that was followed for the installation of Sister Anna Melville as the directing sister for the community. Planning records include minutes from program committee meetings, reports to the conference, schedules, housing lists, suggested menus, conference costs, circular letters, and business correspondence.
